Cases of tuberculosis during pregnancy or after childbirth are rare in Finland thanks to Finland’s good TB situation. The risk of contracting TB disease is increased in mothers who were born in countries where TB is common or have stayed in such countries for a long time or repeatedly. Expecting and new mothers exposed to TB in Finland are also at increased risk. If you know that you have spent much time with someone with TB or have been exposed to TB at work, tell the maternity clinic. They will assess your situation and, if necessary, arrange TB screening tests.
